Reigning world pole vault champion – Mondo Duplantis made sure his first ever visit to China was written in pure gold on Saturday, April 20 having elevated his own [world] record to a new high of 6.24m at the 2024 Diamond League in Xiamen yesterday.

The two-time world outdoor champion [Duplantis] was at his imperious best in China as he produced first-time clearances at 5.62m, 5.82m and 6.00m before immediately setting his sights on the record height.

It took the 24-year-old one effort to make history, overtaking his mark with room to spare – the eighth time he has broken the world record.

Former world champion – Sam Kendricks of the United State of America was a distant runner-up with 5.82m, while Chinese Bokai Huang was third with 5.72m.

“It was my first time jumping here in China, and I was really just trying to enjoy the moment,” said the unbeatable Duplantis.

“It’s people that I really want to show what I can do,” he added.
