The technical team of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation [GWF] has nominated Ms. Sandra Mensimah Owusu as Ghana’s sole representative [weightlifting] in the upcoming Youth Olympic Games.

Sandra Owusu [16] will compete in the women’s 58kg bodyweight category at the Games scheduled to take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 06-18, 2018.

Five athletes from four sporting disciplines will represent Ghana at the Games. Ghana will compete in Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Swimming, and Weightlifting.

Sandra who joined the GWF athletes’ brigade last two years had her first international shot in March this year when she and her colleagues participated in the Africa Junior and Youth Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

The Africa Junior and Youth Championships in Egypt served as the qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games.

Sandra finished fourth in her category after snatching 62kg and doing 76kg in clean and jerk to make a total of 138kg. She’s currently ranked No. 34 in the world rankings.

According to the games schedule, Sandra is expected to compete on October 11 at the Youth Olympic Park, Europa Pavilion.
