Coach of Asante Kotoko – Johnson Smith has opined that football players are not supposed to be overburdened with too much training in order to give out their best on match days.
Speaking in a post match interview after guiding the Porcupine Warriors to beat Liberty Professionals 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday, the stand in gaffer explained that it takes more than training to win games.
According to the experience coach he prefers to psyche his players positively as well as motivate them very well ahead of match days than to load them with too much training.
“You don’t need intensive training at all times to bring the best out of your players because if you take a critical look at my players for instance, you’ll realize that they are good individually.
“So all you need to do as a coach in this case is to build their confidence and they will also perform for you.”
Coach Johnson Smith took over the reign as the head coach of Asante Kotoko after the club parted ways with Maxwell Konadu.
