New Bafana Bafana coach – Hugo Broos has said that he is ready to put his life on the line should South Africa fail to reach the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in the Ivory Coast.
Meeting the press for the first time since signing his bumper deal on Wednesday, May 12, the Belgian tactician promised to take South Africa back to the top of Africa and the world.
Hugo Broos who guided Cameroon to win the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea admitted that securing a qualification slot for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is going to be a huge task, but that of the 2023 Cup of Nations is a must for Bafana Bafana.
“If we are not qualified for that, you can kill me,” the Humbeek born former defender said.
“I know this country is looking forward to success,” he added.
The only time South Africa won the African Cup of Nations was in 1996 when Mzansi hosted the African football showpiece.
Bafana Bafana are drawn in Group G in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with Ghana, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia, and only the winners after a double round advance to the final round.
