The sudden demise of Ghana Boxing Authority [GBA] Match official, Frederick Ghartey has been reported in Accra at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Monday, May 28, 2018.
Although the cause of his death is yet to be disclosed, our sources say it was due to a long illness which made him inactive since November 2017.
The experienced referee last officiated the Bastie Samir versus Bukom Banku bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on 20th October 2017, which Samir former skipper of the Black Bombers won by knocking out Bukom Banku in round 7.
Referee Ghartey, 59, was also a deputy Commissioner at the Customs Excise and Preventive Service [CEPS] and the Promotions Committee Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority.
He is one of the experienced officials in Ghana and has officiated in more than 70 high profile boxing fights.
