Global telecommunications giant, MTN [Ghana] has amended its sponsorship deal with the Sports Writers Association of Ghana ahead of its 44th SWAG Awards Night.

The package marks a significant leap on the previous year of GHC 50,000.

MTN Ghana has solidly stand behind the Sports Writers Association of Ghana as its headline sponsor of the annual event for the past eleven years.

The overall sponsorship deal is made up of GHC50,000 cash and GHC10,000 worth of 4.5G devices which will be given to winners in the various categories to enable them experience the speed of the MTN 4G+ network.

Speaking at the unveiling of the sponsorship package on Wednesday, Corporate Sales Executive of MTN Ghana – Mr. Samuel Koranteng explained that his outfit believes in putting smiles on the faces of sports men and women who go the extra mile to achieve excellence.

“At MTN this is yet another opportunity for us to put smiles on the faces of our sports men and women who go the extra mile to achieve excellence in their fields of endeavor.

“The joy expressed by award winners especially the young and promising stars that mount the national stage to be recognized spurs us on to support SWAG in the organization of the awards each year.

“We believe that beyond putting resources into supporting the actual sport, it also very important to motivate and celebrate their successful achievements.”

Mr. Koranteng also applauded the SWAG for its consistency in rewarding excellence in the sports fraternity:

“I would like to commend the Sports Writers Association of Ghana for consistently playing the role of industry watchers to spot the high performing sports personalities and award them each year.

“This they [SWAG] do beyond their professional mandate of reporting on the games they cover in their respective media outlets.”

Mr. Koranteng used the occasion assure the press that MTN will continue to honor its tax obligation to the state.

“MTN Ghana, last year, paid a total of GHC1.48 billion in taxes to the state to contribute our quota towards national development and we [MTN] will continue to do that timeously this year as a good corporate citizen.”

The 44th MTN-SWAG Awards will be held on May 11 at the Accra International Conference Center.
