Legon Cities Football Club [LCFC] laboured to beat Uncle T United 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday to progress to the round of 32 phase of the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup.

Richmond Antwi gave The Royals [Legon Cities] the lead in the 40th minute, but his celebration could not last as Uncle T leveled via the spot in the 45th minute.

The Division One League side [Uncle T] did not relent in the second stanza as they marched the Premier League side boot-for-boot in midfield, giving Legon Cities very little space to operate.

Speaking to the media in a post match press briefing, assistant coach of Legon Cities – Wahid Mohammed acknowledged that they did not have things easy, but they took the very few chances that came their way regardless.

“It was a very good game from all areas. Kudos to the boys.

“They did well. Massive respect to Uncle T. They gave us a very difficult game and of course, we expected that. We are happy to progress.”

“We took our chances and that’s football. Not the best of performance but we did what we have to do.

“Our aim was to qualify to the next round and that’s secured.”

Like his coach, the hero for Legon Cities on the day whose brace ensured the victory – Richmond Antwi said it was a tough game.

“It was a difficult game. No doubt. They gave us a tough game.

“When they equalized, we knew we had to dig in more to take the lead again and we did just that.

“I am happy for the goals but most importantly we have progressed to the next stage.”
