André Ayew’s aim of leading Swansea City to book a spot in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final couldn’t materialized as Brentford beat the Swans 3-1 at the Griffin Park on Wednesday to pick the slot.

The Swans had won the first leg 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium last Sunday but the Bees [Brentford] posted a perfect response as they outshone their opponents in all areas in the final game yesterday, scoring two goals under 15 minute through Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Marcondes.

Bryan Mbeumo grabbed the third goal for the Bees in less than a minute into the second stanza.

Rico Henry’s cross fell into the path of the unmarked forward [Mbeumo] whose volley struck the net at speed to dent the hopes of Swansea City.

Liverpool loanee – Rhain Brewster capitalized on Pontus Jansson’s error to pull one back for Swansea City late in the game, but it was too little, too late to give the Swans a huge lifeline as they lost 2-3 on aggregate.
