Two second half goals from Stephen Sarfo and Kwame Kizito was enough for Ghana to go atop the Group A table of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations as the Black Stars ‘B’ humbled Guinea by 2-0 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Thursday evening.
Ghana for the first time in the competition played like a host as they took off right from the blast of the referee’s whistle exerting pressure on the Syli Nationals, especially from Felix Addo but they were looking jittery in front of post all the same.
The first chance of the game fell in the path of Winful Cobbinah but the Hearts of Oak midfielder shot wide.
Seydouba Camara and Ibrahima Camara teed up excellently in the 30th minute to tease the Ghanaian defence, but Ibrahima’s attempt at goal struck the side of the net sending clear signals to the host.
Ghana created two more chances before the break through Felix Addo and Gideon Waja but both attempts lacked the necessary direction.
Felix Addo beat his marker on the right, sends a long cross into the box aiming at Stephen Sarfo but N. Camara have himself to blame all the same as his attempted clearance rather found the leg of the Ghanaian striker.
Substitute, Kwame Kizito extended the lead for Ghana in the 77th minute. Amos Frimpong pressed forward from the right wing, unleashed an in-swinger straight onto the head of Patrick Razak whose header found the head of Kwame Kizito to finish off the show.
Guinea came close in the 84th minute when Seydouba Camara’s free kick flashed off the right angle of the post leaving the scores at 2-0 in favour of Ghana.
The Black Stars are on top of the Group A table with 3 points.
