Two second half goals from Ibrahim Ogoulola and Agnide Osseni at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Tuesday evening was enough to see Benin progress to the group stage of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations.
Ibrahim Ogoulola thunderbolt in the 63rd minute broke the deadlock for the Squirrels of Benin, otherwise known as Les Ecureuils.
Euclides Ramos nearly pulled parity for the Blue Sharks – Cape Verde in the 68th minute, but his free kick was parried over the bar by Benin goalkeeper Steve Glodjinon.
The Cape Verde goalie [M. Gomes] was called to duty in the 81st minute as he dived excellently to save Ibrahim Ogoulola’s long drive from 20-yards.
The Squirrels of Benin extended their lead in the 90th minute through Agnide Osseni thus securing their qualification into the group stage of the competition.
