The Black Queens of Ghana returned home on Sunday, February 25 after winning gold at the maiden edition of the WAFU [West Africa Football Union] Zone B Women’s championship in Cote D’ Ivoire.
Led by interim coach – Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo, the Black Queens defied all odds to pip the host [Ivory Coast] through Janet Egyir’s solitary goal.
The Black Queens lost [0-1] their opening game of the competition to Ivory Coast, but did not look back thereafter winning all their respective matches through to the finals.
On the road to the finals, Ghana recorded a 5-4 victory over old foes – Nigeria in the semifinals.
Ghana’s Janet Egyir was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament whiles Portia Boakye won the Golden Boot Award.
