Three goals each from Joshua Sargent, Chris Durkin, and Andrew Carleton was all the United States of America needed to shoot them to the top of group A as they humiliated India 3-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Friday.

Playing in the tournament for the first time ever the naivety of the host [India] was telling right from the onset of the game as they opened up for the Stars and Stripes [USA] to give them a jolly ride.

Joshua Sargent passed through the India defence with ease in the 4th minute having been set up with a delightful through pass from Tim Weah but goalkeeper Dheeraj Moirangthem was quick to react to the situation.

In the 28th minute however, Joshua Sargent was brought down in the box by Jitendra Singh resulting in a penalty. Sargent elected himself to play and shot John Hackworth’s side into the lead from the spot.

The United State returned from the break to score two more goals through Chris Durkin [50th] and Andrew Carleton in the 84th minute respectively to go on top of the group A table with superior goal advantage.
