“For we must all appear before the Judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad,”
The above is an unedited quote from the Bible in 2nd Corinthians 5:10, but the real subject of this article goes beyond a Sunday school class.
The 2017 Ghana Premier League will culminate tomorrow, but what is intriguing to note is that as many as eight teams [Berekum Chelsea, Tema Youth, Great Olympics, Bechem United, Elmina Sharks, AshantiGold SC, Liberty Professionals and Inter Allies] in the 16-club league are in a dire calamitous situation where their fate hangs in a balance.
In fact, the final day matches will serve as a real Judgment day for the aforementioned teams who may need to win their respective matches at all cost in order to escape the relegation gunshot.
AshantiGold SC
The soccer miners [AshantiGold SC] will entertain runaway crowned champions of the 2017 Ghana Premier League – Aduana Stars at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi.
AshantiGold are lying in the eleventh position on the league ladder with 38 points and needs nothing short of a win on Sunday to survive whiles Aduana Stars may only go into this fixture with a sense of playing for pride.
Coach C.K Akunnor needs to psyche his players very well ahead of this particular match because there’s going to be enormous pressure on them to deliver and that could propel them into making unnecessary mistakes if the situation is not well managed prior to the game.
Liberty Professionals
The scientific soccer lads will be at their favourite Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman, Accra to welcome the Porcupine Warriors [Asante Kotoko].
Unlike Liberty Professionals who are a shade above the relegation table, Asante Kotoko on the other hand are in a comfortable position [4th] where they only have a pride to protect as one of the top four teams at the end of the season.
Liberty Professionals have 38 points and are very much aware of the consequences that will befall them should they slip on Sunday.
Elmina Sharks have enjoyed lots of publications in the past days due to a comment the President of the club – Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom posted on his official Facebook handle.
But unfortunately for Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom his Facebook comments could rather come back to eat him up on Sunday as Elmina Sharks [9th, with 39 points] host Wa All Stars [5th, with 42 points] at the Nduom Sports Complex in the central region.
Coach Yaw Acheampong will have to count on Benjamin Tweneboah to conjure some magic otherwise their hopes of staying in the Ghana Premier League could be all but over at 5:00pm on Sunday.
Inter Allies
Accra Hearts of Oak will tend itself into a court of law to rule on whether Inter Allies will stay in the Ghana Premier League or not as their neighbours visits them at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Phobians are third on the league log with 47 points and wouldn’t have too much to worry about going into this match which will only serve as a dress rehearsal for their crunch MTN FA Cup final match against Asante Kotoko at the Tamale Sports Stadium next weekend.
Meanwhile, Inter Allies [10th, with 39 points] are in a distress situation and will go into this match with all their arsenals to chase for a win in order to survive.
Tema Youth| Berekum Chelsea
The Harbour City Boys [Tema Youth SC] will come face-to-face with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. This particular match is expected to be a cagey encounter since a slip of point could dent their chances of staying in the league especially Tema Youth.
Berekum Chelsea [8th with 39 points] will escape relegation should they even salvage a draw against the wounded Tema Youth.
Bechem United| Great Olympics
Bechem United and Great Olympics will also go toe-to-toe with each other at the Nana Gyeabour Park.
Staying in the league for the wonder club [Great Olympics] has become more difficult than finding the password of Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi judging from their position on the table [15th, with 36 points].
Bechem United [13th, with 38 points] on the other hand cannot celebrate Christmas either until the end of the game because they could be relegated should Great Olympics beat them on Sunday.
Below are the fixtures for matchday 30:
AshantiGold SC vs. Aduana Stars
Elmina Sharks vs. Wa All Stars
Liberty Professionals vs. Asante Kotoko
Bechem United vs. Great Olympics
Hearts of Oak vs. Inter Allies
Bolga All Stars vs. Ebusua Dwarfs
Berekum Chelsea vs. Tema Youth
WAFA vs. Medeama SC
