Asante Kotoko head coach – Mariano Barreto has called on the Ghana Premier League clubs to respect the rule of fair play at all times.
The Portuguese manager made this clarion call in his post match interview after their matchweek 25 fixture against Liberty Professionals at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope.
Barreto, who took over the reign of affairs for Kotoko at the start of the second round chastised Liberty Professionals for not giving his team the opportunity to train on the pitch a day before the game.
Such acts according to Barreto shows lack of respect to Asante Kotoko, because the Porcupine Warriors do not replicate same unprofessional behaviour when teams visit their territory:
“On Friday, we were not allowed to train here. It is something that made me ashamed because fair play and respect is something that needs to be observed.
“Someone didn’t respect us. They allowed us to come here and when the team was here, they did not allow us to train.
“This is a football country and there are some things that need to be preserved. That is, respect and fair play.
“When the other teams come to Kumasi to play against Kotoko we receive them very well, but when we go away to the teams for instance Eleven Wonders, they always cause a lot of problem at the gate.
“The match commissioners need to prevent these things. The game is not war.”
