Four times African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Lamina Oshoala is having her best season at Barcelona’s Senior Women’s Football Club.
Asisat Lamina Oshoala is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays Spanish side FC Barcelona Femeni in the Primera Division as a forward.
In the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, she was named the best player and the top goal scorer. With this performance, she was signed by Liverpool in 2015.
At Liverpool, Oshoala scored 3 goals in 9 matches. Liverpool offered her to Arsenal at the end of the 2015/16 season. In Arsenal, though her contribution was again not impressive (2 goals in 13 matches), she won her first major club trophy with them (English FA Women’s Cup).
That year and the following year, she won the African Women’s Footballer of the year especially because of her essential role in winning the 2016 Women’s African Cup of Nations where she scored 6 goals in 5 matches played.
In 2018 she joined Barcelona and was able to produce at least a goal for each match she played (7 goals in 7 matches).
She and her mates in Barcelona were runners up that year in the Primera División Femenina and lost the Women’s UEFA Cup final where she scored the only goal against Olympic Lyon in a 4-1 loss.
Currently, the African Women’s Footballer of the Year in Barcelona this season, she won the Supercopa Femenina and has had a glowing season scoring 20 goals in 19 appearances as Barcelona lead the table with 9 matches to go.
