Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Leroy Appiah has spoken profoundly about the examplary leadership qualities of Andre Ayew.

Andre, the second son of the legendary Abedi Pele’s soccer dynasty [Rahim, Andre, and Jordan Ayew] was named the captain of the Black Stars in May 2019, replacing Asamoah Gyan as the substantive captain of the Black Stars ahead of the AFCON 2019 tournament in Egypt.

Coach Kwasi Appiah’s decision to naming Andre Ayew as the captain at the time brought mixed feelings in the Ghanaian football eco system, but Appiah [39] who captained the senior national soccer team between 2002 and 2010 has elevated the leadership qualities of the Swansea City forward – Andre Ayew.

“Andre is a leader. The way he talks and the way he acts,” the former Juventus stalwart said on Joy [98.9] FM.

“Andre always wanted to win and will give everything on the pitch,” he noted

“He has leadership skills and I see a good leader,” Appiah added.

Andre [30], regarded by many as a born leader led Ghana’s Black Satellite to win gold at the 2009 African Youth Championship as well as the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Swansea City attacker was a member of Claud Leroy’s bronze winning AFCON 2008 team and a key member of the Black Stars team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where he was shortlisted for the Young Best Player Award.

Andre has featured in six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments [2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2019], winning the golden boot in 2015.
