Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has revealed that the Government together with his Ministry have plans for athletes who are affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday to discuss the President directives issued during his speech last Sunday in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic for resumption of non-contact sports, he listed the non-contact sports that can resume as: Athletes, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Gold, Power Lifting, Weight Lifting, Cycling, Draughts, Para Sports, Rowing and Canoeing, Baseball and Softball, Horse Racing and Squash.

“Government considered certain factors in easing restrictions on non-contact sports activities.

“Football wasn’t factored because we realized they don’t have the financial muscle to continue with their activities” he expressed.

According to Hon. Asiamah competitive sporting events and games still remain suspended till further notice.

The Minister also stated that, the stimulus packages for Small and Medium business (SME) does not include Sports.
