The Black Starlets of Ghana completely dominated and above all outscored their Indian counterpart 4-0 at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup on Thursday, October 12 to finish on top of the Group A table with superior goal difference.

Eric Ayiah whose name has become the chewing stick in the mouth of a native old lady due to his profligacy in the box in Ghana’s first two matches scored twice while substitutes – Richmond Danso and Emmanuel Toku scored a goal each.

Playing in front of a humongous capacity crowd at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, the Indians sparked off the game to the chants of their vociferous supporters as they tried to bulldoze their way into the game with tact, but coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side had a master plan that neutralized their attacking threat with ease.

After consolidating the host in the early minutes of the game, the Black Starlets began to sting and create decent goal scoring opportunities only for goalkeeper Dheeraj Moirangthem to deny Ibrahim Sadiq and Eric Ayiah [captain] from hitting the back of the net.

The Starlets nonetheless broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute through the busy looking Eric Ayiah. Nimble footed Ibrahim Sadiq ghosted his way into the box, struck a powerful left footed shot only for Dheeraj Moirangthem to punch into play, but only as far as in the path of Eric Ayiah who was lurking in the eighteen yard box to hit it hard with his left foot into the back of the twine.

The Black Starlets returned from the break with more attacking force as the refreshed Eric Ayiah extended Ghana’s lead in the 52nd minute having been put through by Edmund Arko-Mensah’s cutback pass.

With such a rampaging attack, coach Norton de Matos [India] could have little to do against the two-time world champions. The Black Starlets at this stage were just on top of the ladder as they even went to the extent of trying some few training ground movements in the course of the second half.
