Jamaica’s Stacey-Ann Williams ran a season’s best 52.71 to advance to the semi-final round of the 400m during Tuesday’s evening session of the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.
Williams was second in Heat 2 that was won by India’s Hima Das in 52.25s but she was not the only Caribbean athlete to advance to Wednesday’s semi-final round.
Cuba’s Roxanne Gomez was third in Heat 3 in 53.19s while Amanda Crawford of Grenada was second in Heat 5 and was also an automatic qualifier.
Also advancing were Dominica’s Fiordaliza Cofil, who finished fourth in Heat 4 in 54.13 and the Cayman Islands’ Shalysa Wray who was fourth in Heat 3 in 54.48.
Williams and Wray will compete in semi-final Heat 1, while Cofil and Gomez will run in semi-final Heat 2.
Crawford will vie for a spot in the final via semi-final Heat 3.
