General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana [SWAG], Charles Osei Assibey has revealed the impacts of coronavirus on sports Journalists in Ghana.
According to the General Secretary of SWAG, the sports fraternity has really suffered triple effects from COVID-19.
“As a journalist representing SWAG as a secretary, we have been affected.
“First of all, a few of our members have been rendered redundant.
“They have lost their jobs, some have also faced pay cuts.”
Mr. Osei Assibey also reiterated how the global pandemic has affected the activities of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana:
“The annual SWAG Awards has also been suspended and we are not even organizing meetings,” he noted.
SWAG awards – the longest running awards event in Ghana and the most prestigious and credible award scheme which has been running unbroken for the past 45 years, has for the first time been hit by a false majeure – coronavirus.
The 45th MTN/SWAG Awards Night was scheduled to take place on May 25, 2020 at the Accra International Conference Centre, but the event has been postponed to a yet-to-be released date.
