Serena Williams is not ashamed to embrace her changing body while pregnant.
Clearly not worried about potential weight gain, the tennis star has proudly boasted about her enhanced “pregnancy lips”.
Williams, 35, is currently expecting her first child with her Reddit co-founder fiance Alexis Ohanian. Seven months into her pregnancy, the Wimbledon champion updated fans on her blossoming figure via Snapchat, sharing two close-up shots of her new pout with the caption: “Pregnancy lips are finally here! I’m soooo excited! Lol haha.”
It comes just days after Williams posed while pregnant for a shoot with Vanity Fair magazine. The sports star graces the August cover mostly in the nude, posing for a side profile leaving her growing baby bump exposed.
In the accompanying interview, Williams admitted she feels nervous about impending motherhood, claiming she “doesn’t know what to do with a baby” adding that it “doesn’t seem real”.
Although Williams is still digesting the next chapter, Ohanian, 34, is confident she will make a great mother, telling CNBC’s Squawk Box: “She’s very good at a lot of things and well on her way to being an awesome mum too. At Reddit, it’s really important for us to support men and women when they are welcoming a new member to the family and so we have a pretty generous parental leave policy.”
Keen to be a hands-on father, Ohanian will be stepping in to help Williams on the late-night feeds and nappy duties. “I’ll be taking off for six weeks myself and trying to do the best job possible as a new dad, a first-time dad. We want to break that stereotype that the men work and the women take care of kids. We want to give that opportunity to everyone.”
With just two months to go until she gives birth, Williams has pulled out of Wimbledon 2017. According to her coach Patrick Mouratoglou, the tennis player is unlikely to be watching from home either out of frustration that she is unable to take part. Mouratoglou told wtatennis.com: “I don’t think Serena will watch the women’s tournament so much as she’ll be too frustrated at not being able to compete.
“When you’re off the tour for reasons you can’t control, and when you feel competitive and you still feel as though you can win Grand Slams, I think that’s difficult and frustrating to sit at home watching others win. Maybe she will watch a little bit but not too much. She will watch just enough to feel that frustration and to feed her appetite to play.
However, it is expected that Williams could return to the sport in January 2018 for a competition in Melbourne.
