The schedule for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games has been announced, marking the one year to go milestone ahead of the event in Australia.

The Games, taking place in the Australian coastal city in Queensland from April 4-15, will see athletics action get underway on April 8.

The first athletics event of the Games will be the men’s and women’s 20km race walk events on Currumbin Beachfront before the first session of stadium action that afternoon in Carrara Stadium.

Both the men’s and women’s 100m finals will be the following day, on Monday April 9.

The marathon events at Southport Broadwater Parklands will bring athletics action to a close on April 15.

The competition events schedule unveiled by organisers on Tuesday is the largest in Commonwealth Games history.

An official Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games ticketing guide, available online at www.gc2018.com/tickets, has also been released to help fans begin planning ahead of ticket requests opening on April 24.

“As we celebrate our one year to go milestone, it is exciting to announce the largest competition events schedule in Commonwealth Games history,” said GOLDOC chairman, Peter Beattie AC.

“GC2018 will mark the first time para triathlon has featured on the programme and para sport athletes will be able to compete in the marathon for the first time also.”

GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters added: “With 18 sports and a record seven para-sports, GC2018 comprises the largest competition event schedule in Commonwealth Games history which will be broadcast to a cumulative global audience of 1.5 billion.

“Athletics will be the largest sport at GC2018 with a total of 58 medal events and estimated participation of around 1000 athletes from over 60 nations and territories.”
