It’s five [5] days into the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, but the Republic of South Africa has taken an early lead on the medal table with regards to African nations competing at the international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Below is the African medal standings:

1. South Africa: Medals 12 – Gold [5], Silver [4], Bronze [3]

2. Nigeria: Medals 4 – Gold [2], Silver [0], Bronze [2]

3. Uganda: Medal 1 – Gold [1], Silver [0], Bronze [0]

4. Kenya: Medals 2 – Gold [0], Silver [1], Bronze [1]

5. Mauritius: Medals 2 – Gold [0], Silver [1], Bronze [1]

6. Tanzania: Medal – Gold [0], Silver [1], Bronze [0]

7. Namibia: Medal – Gold [0], Silver [0], Bronze [1]

Meanwhile, Australia leads the overall medal standings with 71 medals, followed by England [54], and New Zealand [24].

Eyes will turn to the Alexander Stadium today as athletics and para athletics take off.
