Real have only reached the final twice from their last seven semi-final encounters, while Atletico have reached a European final – Champions League or Europa League – from each of their last four semi-finals match-ups.
Cristiano Ronaldo once again led by example to earn Real Madrid a commanding advantage in their UEFA Champions League semi-final after a 3-0 first-leg victory over city rivals Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday evening.
The Portugal captain’s hat-trick underlined a dominant first-leg performance by Real, who made sure they are in the driving seat heading into the decisive second leg at the Vicente Calderon next week.
