Sports Writers Association of Ghana’s Discovery of the Year [2016], Richmond Osarfo would be Ghana’s sole representative at the upcoming International Weightlifting Federation [IWF] Junior World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Billed to take place in the Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo [Japan] from June 15, 2017 to June 23, 2017 the competition would serve as a preparatory launch pad for Richmond ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games qualifier which would also be held in Gold Coast [Queensland], Australia in September this year.

Richmond who won bronze and silver at the Commonwealth Youth, Junior and Senior Championship in Penang, Malaysia will compete in the 94kg body weight category. He is expected to snatch and jerk 145kg and 170kg respectively.

Head coach of the Black Cranes, Dr. Kyle Pierce will be on the lines to offer technical assistance to Richmond. He [Dr. Pierce] will also represent the Ghana Weightlifting Federation [GWF] in the IWF Congress to be held on the sidelines of the championship.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Weightlifting Federation has sent a motivational message to the athlete as he battles to raise high the flag of Ghana.
