In the wake of her second-place finish in a season’s best time at the Cayman Invitational on Saturday, two-time Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has been added to the 100m line up of the Racers Grand Prix set for the National Stadium on Saturday, June 9.
The 31-year-old multiple world champion ran a season’s best 11.33s on Saturday finishing second to the USA’s Jenna Prandini in the Cayman Islands. Prandini’s winning time was 11.16s.
Saturday’s race, her third for the season, will see Jamaica’s 100m national record holder, take up what will perhaps be her toughest field since she returned from her two-year hiatus during which she gave birth to her son Zyon.
Meet Director Glen Mills said Fraser-Pryce will be a great addition to the meet.
“I am very excited. We know how great she has been, an ambassador. Racers is very happy to have her and that it is part of her comeback, and certainly it will add to the glamour of the meet to have somebody of her stature taking part,” he said.
She will face Prandini once again but will also be up against the likes of Kelly-Ann Baptiste, reigning World Champion Tori Bowie, Commonwealth Games silver medalist Christania Williams and teen star Briana Williams, who won the sprint double at the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico this past weekend.
