The chase for the Absa Premiership title defence took another dimension at the Orlando Stadium last night as Mamelodi Sundowns beat league leaders – Kaizer Chiefs 1-0.

The win puts Masandawana [Sundowns] level on points with the Amakhosi [53 points] each with only the goal difference separating them.

This was a second successive win for the Brazilians having beating Golden Arrows on Monday to boost their confidence ahead of the big clash.

Uruguayan striker Gaston Sirino struck in the 35th-minute to hand Sundowns all three points at hand. The match was tagged as the title-decider of the 2019/20 Absa Premiership, but Pitso Mosimane has described it as a title influencer instead.

“[It was a title] influencer, not a decider,” the experience gaffer said.

Pitso Mosimane further reiterated what could ruin Kaizer Chief’s title hopes.

“If you get too excited and you don’t know how to win the championship, you’ll think oh Polokwane we’ll win, oh Baroka we’ll win. It’s not the case but the [CAF] Champions League experience helped us today and we managed to sustain that, this is a Champions League game.”
