Head coach of Al Ahly – Pitso Mosimane has compared the skill set of Percy Tau to Lionel Messi as the Red Devils are on the verge of snapping the South African forward from Premier League side – Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 2020/21 CAF Champions League winners have reached an agreement worth €1.8-million [R31m] to sign the 27-year-old from Brighton.

Many South African football fans have expressed their displeasure at the decision of Percy Tau for leaving the highly rated English Premier League to play in the Egyptian League, but Mosimane thinks otherwise.

“Let him come to play in the Club World Cup against Bayern Munich and dribble Bayern. Percy is a showman‚ he is like Lionel Messi,” he said via Instagram Live with Casper Nyovest on Monday.

“Percy has been in Europe for about four years and let’s be honest‚ we haven’t seen him play. We saw him play football in Belgium but SA teams can [challenge] against those Belgium teams.

“At Al Ahly we can compete and we can go toe-to-toe with Bayern Munich‚ who took 75 minutes before they scored a goal against us‚ and that means we are a credible team.”

“Percy hasn’t played football and he is approaching 28 years now‚ do you want him to retire without having played football?” he quizzed.

“At the moment he is not showing people what he is capable of‚ he is about to retire and those things are important. People are saying he is downgrading but he is not playing where he is at the moment and he will play at Al Ahly.”
