Nigeria forward – Victor Osimhen has become the most expensive African player [transfer] having completed his move from Lille to Napoli for a reported €81.3m [£73.2m].
“SSC Napoli are delighted to announce the signing of Victor Osimhen from Lille on a permanent transfer,” the Italian club announced on Friday.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis further reiterated that the Lagos born striker’s transfer exceeds 100 million should bonuses be added:
“We had been following Victor Osimhen for some time..Gattuso [Gennaro, coach] and Giuntoli [Cristiano, sporting director] wanted him. They convinced me to make the investment of 70 million euros plus another 10 million bonuses. If we also consider wages, this transfer exceeds 100 million”.
The 21-year-old Nigerian forward who joined Lille from Belgian side Charleroi following Nicholas Pepe’s departure to Arsenal last season scored 13 and assisted five goals in Ligue 1.
Osihem’s transfer has beaten the £72m Arsenal paid for Nicolas Pepe last summer.
