The organisers of the biggest cycling event in Ghana – Gladiators Cycling Club has launched the Osagyefo Criterium 2022.

The main event is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

During the press event, Charles Hansen-Quao, technical director of the race event took the press and audience through the various updates ranging from race details to unveiling of the official jersey.

He touched on the prizes for the winners. Winners would also have an exclusive photoshoot at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum as part of their winning package.

He also introduced the modern tech called the Finish Line technology which would be used to get the details of the winners within the shortest possible time so as to avoid delays. He expertly took the audience through how the technology works and how essential and effective it is for this year’s race.

Mr. Kojo Graham, founder and chief gladiator of Gladiators Cycling Club, unveiled the official jersey for this year’s race event. He stated that the focus is to capture Osagyefo as the main theme, and also with the intention to project Ghana as this is an international event. The jerseys would be given to the first 50 riders who finish the race.

In a brief speech by the technical director of the Ghana Cycling Federation – Mr. Shaaban Mohammed, he touched on plans that are being put in place by the federation towards the event. He also mentioned that the federation was grateful to the Gladiators Cycling Club for their determination and zeal to make this program happen and terming it as the best cycling event in the history of the federation in Ghana.

Mr. Mohammed requested that the Osagyefo Criterium should be marked in the UCI calendar in 2023.

In the closing remarks, Mr. Kojo Graham mentioned that the country is lacking in a lot of sports activities. Being able to acquire the Finish Line Technology is one of the greatest achievements of the Gladiators Cycling Club, and it would put the cycling events this year and in the coming years in a different and unique dimension.

He also mentioned that the advocacy for cycling should be a conversation that should be carried further, both with the government and local authorities, as well as individuals.

The Osagyefo Criterium would take place on the 21st of September 2022 at 8am at the Accra Sports Stadium.
