Egyptian table tennis stalwart – Omar Assar has entered the list of winners of the Düsseldorf Masters for the first time.
The 2011 Arab Games [in Doha] silver medalist was all but, poised for action in the finals against Cedric Meissner, beating the 20-year-old 4-2 to clinch the ultimate, his first ever Masters success having lost four finals in 2020 and 2021.
Speaking in a post match interview, the Egyptian veteran who is preparing ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was quite ecstatic to break the yoke at last.
“Finally! It’s a good feeling that I won the final this time. I trained a lot this week and went into the tournament very optimistic.
“I had three opponents today, but went into the games with a lot of self-confidence.
“Many thanks to Borussia and DTTB, that I was allowed to be here, especially with regards to my preparations for the Olympic Games.”
