American professional track and field sprinter – Noah Lyles won the men’s 200m on Friday with a time of 19.72 seconds, breaking the meeting record in a Diamond League meet in Doha.

The American was pushed all the way by Fred Kerley, who finished second in 19.75 seconds, while reigning Olympic gold medallist Andre De Grasse finished fourth in a time of 20.15 seconds behind Jereem Richards [third] of Trinidad & Tobago.

Returning to Doha where he won gold medals in the 200 meters and the 4 × 100-meter relay at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, Lyles was undoubtedly the most favourite to win the individual gong going into the race.

But it has to be said nonetheless that the American duo – Noah Lyles and Fred Kerley benefited from a tailwind of 2.1m/sec to finish one-two.
