As promised by their head coach – Pitso Mosimane at his pre match press conference, Egyptian champions – Al Ahly delivered a vintage performance on Saturday to edge Esperance 1-0 in Tunis to claim a first leg advantage in the semi finals of the 2020/21 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Mohamed Sherif scored the only goal of the highly tactical game for the Red Devils in the 66th minute to hand them a vital win away win.

The Egyptian attacker [Sherif] tapped home on the second bite of the cherry after his initial tap past the keeper came off the post off a beautiful through pas from Aliou Dieng.

Going into the game Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane stated that he was going to set up his team to go for the win despite playing away from home.

“We are an experienced team and we always play to win and make our fans happy,” he said.

“We have a huge responsibility towards our history and our fans,” the South African added.

Experience goalkeeper – Mohamed El Shenawy did not contradict his coach, adding that they were focused on nothing but a positive result.

“We have been preparing for this game for 15 days and we are fully focused to get a positive result to have an advantage in the second leg,” the Egyptian goalie said.

Al Ahly will host Esperance in the return leg on Saturday in Cairo.
