South Africa managed a vital 1-0 win over Cote d’Ivoire in Group B match day 2 played on Tuesday (12 November 2019) to go top of the pool.

Teboho Mokoena scored a brilliant curling free-kick to break the deadlock eleven minutes from time to raise his side’s tally to four points, one more than the Ivorian Elephants.

Mokoena could have opened the score in the very same style just two minutes into the game but for a brilliant save from Cote d’Ivoire shot stopper Ira Tape.

Lyle Foster missed a hilarious chance to give South Africa the lead when he stole the ball from Tape but shot in the side netting from three yards away.

After a goalless first half, South Africa continued to dominate possession in the second half, wasting numerous chances to take the lead.

And after 79 minutes Mokoena sent a curling shot that rebounded from the crossbar to inside the net.

Trecious Malepe could have dpobled Cote d’Ivoire’s lead two minutes later but his header rebounded from the crossbar.
