Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has explained the reason why he did not start Ghanaian midfielder – Thomas Teye Partey in his starting line up in their 0-1 lost to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Thomas, who earned his dream transfer to Arsenal on deadline day was brought on in the twilight of the game having arrived in London only last Tuesday.
The player declared his readiness to play [ahead of matchday] in the big fixture should he be given the opportunity but the manager believes the former Atletico Madrid player needs some time to adopt into the team properly.
“Yes, we will see how quickly we can make it with him,” Arteta said in his post match interview.
“I think we have to respect that process and that timing for him because he only trained for a day really and there’s a lot of new information and different game models for him to understand, and we have to respect that.
Thomas Partey replaced Granit Xhaka in the 84th minute of the game but his presence on the pitch could not help solve the puzzle as Pep Guardiola’s men protected their lone goal.
Despite playing just six minutes, Mikel Arteta nonetheless was happy with the performance of the Black Stars midfielder.
“I think when he came on he looked good,” the manager said of him
