The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a 0-1 defeat to second string El-Tri [Mexico] side in an international friendly game at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas [USA] in the early hours of Thursday, June 29.

Abdul Majeed Waris and Frank Acheampong should have given the Black Stars an early lead, but the two attackers failed to utilize the separate glorious opportunities that came their way leaving the Mexicans to settle.

Elias Hernandez gave Mexico the lead from the spot in the 32nd minute after John Boye had fouled Garcia in the box which Hernandez elected himself to take and scored perfectly.

Frank Acheampong was gifted a golden opportunity for the second time in the 77th minute, but the Anderlecht forward powerful left footed drive rattled off the crossbar and that was his last real action in the game as he was replaced by Asamoah Gyan in the 82nd minute.

Asamoah Gyan’s presence did not change the shape of the game as Mexico kept pressing from counter attacks.

The Black Stars will complete their double header friendly international matches on Saturday, June 1 as they play the United States of America in Connecticut.
