Coach Maxwell Konadu played all his second half tricks on Sunday including throwing in his new-found wild card – Mathew Anim Cudjoe but the Porcupine Warriors were still held by their regional rivals AshantiGold SC at the ghost-like Baba Yara Stadium.

Faced with a ban due to crowd hooliganism, Asante Kotoko were further hit with a huge blow as their midfield stalwart [Justice Blay] was ruled out of the Asante derby few minutes to kick off, forcing the coach to tweak his style.

The soccer miners [AshantiGold] came knocking at Kotoko’s goal as early as the 7th minute but goalkeeper Kwame Baah punched the ball to safety.

AshantiGold came hunting for the equalizer again in the 15th minute, but James Akaminko’s glancing shot went wide.

Kotoko’s first attempt at goal came in the 24th minute when Imoro Ibrahim latched onto Christopher Nettey’s cross but his shot went off target. Kwame Baah continued his rescue mission for Kotoko in the 26th minute as he punched away Emmanuel Owusu’s drive at goal.

Coach Maxwell Konadu made three changes, bringing on Augustine Okrah, Mathew Anim Cudjoe, and Richard Arthur in the second half but it couldn’t change the dynamics of the game.

The soccer miners came close twice in the closing stages of the game.

First, Benjamin Eshun’s 89th goal bound attempt was cleared off the line and Appiah McCarthy’s 90th minute shot hit the upright corner.
