Asante Kotoko head coach – Mariano Barreto has berated referee Emmanuel Tampuri for poor officiating in their matchday 22 game against Legon Cities Football Club at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The Porcupine Warriors piped Legon Cities 1-0 to climb to the summit of the league table but the Portuguese manager careless about the results in his post match conference as he spent chunk of his time lamenting about how Ghanaian referees have not been fair to Kotoko.
An angry Barreto called out the match officials as he wondered if there are no referees in Ghana football.
“I think they [referees] have to try and improve also because they have to help the game.
“This is the second time one of my player will be going out due to injury and if they [referees] don’t protect the players, then why are they coming?
“I like football and I am feeling ashamed when I look at these kind of things.
“We played with a very good team and won. You did not see my players falling down [simulating] to kill the time because we are working for the [progress] game and this is why we deserve respect
“In our last game [against Medeama] the game stopped for more than ten minutes so if the people want the development of football, then we have to talk about important things and the important thing is to protect the players.”
According to the former Black Stars coach, referee Tampuri goofed when he got the game underway prior to the players taking their positions after the water break.
“I’ve never seen this kind of thing before. You have to wait for all the team to take their positions before you start the game.
“Why are you doing these things?” he quizzed.
“When the players don’t play well, the coach takes them out, if the coaches are not performing the management sack the coach and what happens with the rest?
“They continue to control the system? I don’t know.”
He, however, added that Legon Cities tried to complicate the game, but they [Asante Kotoko] fought like warriors.
