The crisis at Manchester United continued Saturday with a stunning 3-1 loss to West Ham in London, and the Jose Mourinho era could be nearing an abrupt end.
Manchester United were eliminated from the Carabao Cup on penalties earlier this week by Frank Lampard’s Derby County, and Mourinho seems to have lost his dressing room.
The manager is involved in an awkward public beef with star midfielder Paul Pogba, and video of a tense training ground encounter emerged on Wednesday after Mourinho stripped Pogba of his captaincy.
Mourinho started Pogba against West Ham, but took him off the field after 70 minutes.
West Ham grabbed an early lead through Felipe Anderson, and a Manchester United own goal just before halftime gave the home team a 2-0 lead.
Marcus Rashford scored in the 71st minute to put United back in the game, but West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic answered with a goal just three minutes later.
The loss leaves Manchester United eight points from the top after seven games, and that gap could increase depending on the result of Saturday’s Chelsea-Liverpool game.
Mourinho led Manchester United to a Premier League title just two seasons ago, but many fans are fed up with The Special One.
