Mamelodi Sundowns has been crowned champions of the DStv Premiership after beating SuperSport United 3-1 in the Tshwane derby on Wednesday.
The Brazilians were gifted with numerical advantage just seven minutes into the game as Guily Manziba picked up a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Sphelele Mkhulise.
Substitute, Lebohang Maboe gave Sundowns the lead in the 33rd minute having tapped Aubrey Modiba’s low cross into the lonely net.
Modiba extended the lead for Masandawana [Sundowns] in the 40th minute with a curling drive that caught SuperSport goalie – Ronwen Williams ball watching before Themba Zwane made it three for Sundowns in the 43rd minutes.
The Brazilians blew away a golden opportunity to go four ahead in the 53rd minute, but Ronwen Williams saved Themba Zwane effort from the spot.
Teboho Mokoena’s beautiful half volley in the 87th minute reduced the deficit but it was too little to save Matsatsantsa [SuperSport] from stopping Mamelodi Sundowns from clinching a fourth straight league title.
Sundowns have accumulated 60 points from 27 games played, 10 more points than second placed [50] AmaZulu FC.
