Super sub – Mshishi Zwane came off the bench to clinch a last minute 3 points for Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday at Dobsonville Stadium to set the Brazilians Absa Premiership title hopes alive once again.

Great fighting spirit and character ensured 1-0 victory for Masandawana [Mamelodi Sundowns] over the boys from Durban – Golden Arrows.

Phakamani Mahlambi almost fired the Brazilians ahead just two minutes into the game with a looping strike from outside the box, but his effort that sailed over the bar.

Golden Arrows began finding space in advancing areas and came close towards the half-hour mark as Zolani Nkombela fired from range, while Sundown’s Sirino fired into the side-netting from a set-piece at the other end.

Mamelodi Sundowns nearly broke the deadlock in the 46th minute but Mahlambi’s snap-shot from the blind side was brilliantly parried away by Golden Arrows goalkeeper Mlungwama.

Pitso Masimone freshened up his side in the closing quarter as Sirino and Mahlambi made way for Themba Zwane and Keletso Makgalwa.

The substitution paid off in the dying minutes of the game when Zwane popped up in the area for a composed finish to take Mamelodi Sundowns to within three point of league leaders Kaizer Chiefs ahead of Thursday’s mouth-watering showdown.
