Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club have departed South Africa to face CAF Champions League title-holders, Al Ahly of Egypt in a quarter-final first leg at the 30,000 capacity Al Salam Stadium on Saturday, May 15.

Both sides have faced each other in the past two editions of the CAF Champions League, both times in the same round and Sundowns came out victorious two years ago with Al Ahly coming on top last year.

The second leg will then take place a week later at the Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.

One other subplot about the game is the reunion of Rhulani Mokwena and his mentor and for coach of the Brazilians – Pitso Mosimane.

The Masandawana [Sundowns] have accumulated 57 points and need only two victories from their remaining four fixtures to be crowned DStv Premiership title for a fourth consecutive time.

Benni McCarthy’s Amazulu FC is second on the log with 50 points.
