Former Black Stars and Bayern Munich reliable central defender – Samuel Osei Kuffuor has opened up on why he was sacked from camp at the 2002 African Cup of Nations in Mali.
According to Kuffour, he got booted because he stood up to speak against the ill-treatment of the playing body then:
“Nobody was able to tell the technical team that what they were doing was wrong,” he told GTV Sports Plus.
“Black Stars were eating by the roadside, a chop bar, you can ask any player.
“I never regret being bold because I was concerned that some of the players could even catch some serious disease.”
He further asserted that the late Ben Koufie apologized to him [Kuffuor] after the tournament.
“I was so glad that the late Ben Koufie apologized to me after the competition.
“When he was launching his book I was there and he told me he was sorry.
“At my mother’s funeral he also apologized and said the way I was sacked from the camp was wrong.”
There were reports that Osei Kuffour was sacked because he attended nightclub, but the former player dismissed it, saying there was no nightclub close to the Black Stars camp.
“They even said I went to the nightclub which was not true because there was no night club even at where we were staying.
