Kumasi Asante had to dig very deep into the bucket to settle for 1-1 draw game with AshantiGold SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 05 after Hans Kwofie had given the soccer miners the lead.

With relegation knocking at their door, the visitors [AshantiGold] kicked the game underway distributing passes amongst themselves with the aim of courting the Porcupine Warriors into their half.

Kotoko unlocked the AshantiGold defence in the 14th minute as Obed Owusu and Kwame Boahene played a quick one-two pass, but the final pass could not locate Saddick Adams who was lurking in the box.

As Kotoko began to query the defensive line of AshantiGold late in the half, it was Hans Kwofie rather who sent the pulse of the fans racing as he broke the deadlock in the 45th minute having beaten an offside trap on the road.

Kotoko returned from the break with lots of tricky moves as they tried to pull even in earnest.

AshantiGold stood up to the pressure as they marched Asante Kotoko boot-for-boot in the midfield with Theophilus Nyame standing tall over his former teammates.

Asante Kotoko was denied twice in the 75th minute as Saddick Adams and Obed Owusu’s attempt at goal was cleared on the goal line.

Saddick Adams stood up to the occasion in the 87th minute, scoring from the spot to wrestle a point for the Porcupine Warriors.

AshantiGold, undoubtedly the most improved team in the second round have leapfrogged to the tenth position on the league table with 35 points whiles Asante Kotoko occupies the fourth spot with 40 points.

The soccer miners will take on Tema Youth Sporting Club on Sunday, October 08 at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports stadium.
