Asante Kotoko center forward – Kwame Poku has explained the inspiration behind his mouth watering goal against Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

The former Nkoranza Warriors sharp shooter [Poku] bought the headlines with a peny having scored a brace to gift the Porcupine Warriors [Kotoko] 2-0 win over the scientific soccer lads.

But beyond the much needed win, what really got people talking is the abrupt cohesion between Fabio Gama and Kwame Poku.

The Brazilian midfielder who joined Asante Kotoko over the last summer transfer window was the liaison between Kwame Poku’s brace.

Speaking in a post match interview, however, the Asante Kotoko newfound goal monger [Kwame Poku] explained that Lionel Messi is the inspiration behind his exemplary second goal on the day.

According to the striker he spends lots of time watching videos of Lionel Messi and try to learn from the tricks of the Argentine football ‘god.’

“I watch videos of Lionel Messi a lot and I try to implement some of his skills on match days and it worked for me today,” he said.

Having been located by Fabio Gama’s excellent pass into the eighteen yard box of Liberty Professionals, Kwame Poku calmly controlled the ball with his chest [with a half turn], beaten two defenders in the process and then planting the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Kofi Baah to send the 13.5% spectators present go haywire.
