The Republic of Korea kicked off the FIFA U-20 World Cup in a spectacular fashion with a cool 3-0 victory over Guinea on Saturday, May 20, 2017 before a 37,500 capacity crowd inside the Jeonju World Cup stadium.
The Taeguk Warriors [Korea] despite pushing hard could not find the back of the net until Lee Seungwoo’s deflected effort in the 36th minute gave them the lead going into the break.
The host extended the lead in the 77th minute when Lee Seungwoo played a through ball into the path of Lim Minhyeok to slot and easy past Guinea’s goalie, Moussa.
Guinea’s hopes of pulling a goal back was finally dashed in the 81st minute when Barcelona star Paik Seungho turned Jeong Taewook’s headed pass into the twine.
Coach Shin Tae Yong’s side comfortable win sent the provincial government seat of the North Jeolla region [Jeonju] into a frenzy mood.
