Joyciline Jepkosgei clocked 64:51 to improve her own world half-marathon record by one second at the Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Half Marathon in Spain on Sunday, October 22.

The 23-year-old, who ran a world 10km record of 29:43 in Prague in September, was paced by her fellow Kenyan Ezekiel Kemboi through 5km in 14:52 and was still ahead of world record pace as she went through 10km in 30:09.

She went through the 15km mark in 45:59 but passed 20km in 61:30 before a strong finish saw her narrowly beat her previous best.

“It was my first race in Valencia, I enjoyed it a lot. The weather is nice, the circuit is perfect to run fast,” the IAAF quoted Jepkosgei as saying. “I hope to come back in March for the World Half Marathon Championships.”
