The Manchester United boss was spotted attending the Russia v Austria friendly on Wednesday night, where he is said to be watching Austria playmaker Marko Arnautovic ahead of a rumored switch to Old Trafford.
Mourinho was in Innsbruck for the pre-World Cup game between Austria and tournament hosts Russia, where he is understood to be keeping a close eye on West Ham’s Arnautovic ahead of a rumored big money transfer to the Manchester club.
Reports in the English press are linking the 29-year-old Austrian with a $66 million move to Old Trafford, though the speculation has received a mixed reaction from fans, some of whom have been vocal on social media that their club should be seeking higher profile transfer targets.
Arnautovic managed 11 goals in his debut season in East London following a $33 million move from Stoke City last summer and if Mourinho follows through with his interest in the player it will mean that his market value essentially doubled over the 2017/18 season.
It is likely that Mourinho liked what he saw in Austria, as Arnautovic provided a first half assist for Alessandro Schopf’s goal in the 1-0 victory before being substituted in the 83rd minute.
