Jamaica Olympic Champion Elaine Thompson had to settle for third place as the Ivory Coast duo of Marie-Josee Ta Lou and Murielle Ahoure swept the top two spots in the women’s 100m at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday.

A fast-closing Ta Lou got the better of her compatriot Ahoure at the line, claiming top spot with a time of 10.88.

Ahoure who seemed to get the best start of the field and lead until late metres before the line finished right behind her teammate in 10.90.

The Jamaican, who got off to a slow start, was never really in the running for a top spot and finished further back in the bronze medal spot with a time of 10.98.

The loss was the Jamaican’s second of the relatively new season. She also finished third in the event at Doha Diamond League, on that occasion also behind the in-form Ta Lou.
