American born basketball player Italee Lucas, traced her routes back to Africa, Angola to be precise and gained the opportunity to represent her country.

Born in Las Vegas, the 31-year-old shooting guard started her basketball career in Centennial High School in Las Vegas and by 2011 she was drafted into the WNBA after a promising performance representing North Carolina College.

She was the 21st pick selected by Tulsa Shock in the 2nd Round and that is where her professional career started. Although she was picked by Tulsa Shock, she was not given game time during the season.

Italee had her first professional basketball experience in Israel where she signed for Bnot Hasharon averaging about 10 points per game and an assist per game.

In 2013, she signed for G.D. Interclube which was a club in Angola and was able to assist the team to win 3 major trophies (African Championship, the African Supercup, and the African Champions Cup) as she was the MVP in the latter.

Luckily she was granted Angolan citizenship in 2015 and made her debut for her country in 2016 in the 2016/2017 Women’s Afrobasket in Mali.

Even though Angola was 6th overall in that tournament, she was the fourth highest in terms of points per game with 15.4 points per game and was selected as the shooting guard in the competition’s all-star team.

Italee Lucas is yet to win a major trophy with the Angolan Women’s National Team as she has already won a couple of international trophies representing the USA.
